Terms, including the uploader agreement
Last updated 24 Oct 2026
Draft: a lawyer reviews this text before the first public release.
These terms are between you and [legal name of the operator] ("we", "us"), who run likhon.app (the "website"), including the Likhon library, the browser tools and the forum. By using the website you accept these terms. The Likhon app itself is covered by the Software license agreement, and how we handle personal data is explained in the Privacy notice.
1. Using the website
The website, its tools and the library are free for everyone. You may read, download and use what is published here under the license shown with it. The browser tools run in your browser: the text you type into them is not sent to us.
When you use the website, you agree not to:
- break the law, or help someone else break it;
- upload or post anything that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- upload malware, or anything built to harm a computer, a person's data or the app's users;
- try to get into accounts, admin pages or systems you are not allowed into, or test their security without our written permission;
- overload the website, get around its rate limits, or collect data from it in bulk by automated means, except through the public files and feeds we publish for that purpose; or
- pretend to be someone else, or suggest that we endorse you or your work when we do not.
2. Accounts
You need an account only to publish to the library and to post in the forum. You sign in with your email address, by a single-use link we email to you or with a password you set. You must be at least [13] years old to have an account, and if you are under 18 you need a parent's or guardian's permission. Keep access to your email account safe: anyone who can read it can sign in as you. You are responsible for what is done through your account.
You can delete your account from the Account page. What happens to things you published is explained in section 3.
3. Publishing to the library (uploader agreement)
Before your first upload, the website asks you to accept these terms, to confirm that what you publish is open source, and to accept the responsibility statement below. We record the date you accepted and the version of the terms. When the terms change, we ask again before your next upload.
What you promise. For every item you submit (layout, theme, word list, autocorrect or shortcut list, symbols, font or anything else the library accepts), you promise that:
- you made it yourself, or you have the right to publish it under the license you choose (for example because its author released it under that license);
- it does not copy a keyboard layout, font or word list whose owner has not allowed it to be shared;
- it is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and an autocorrect or shortcut list does not secretly replace words with anything offensive, misleading or harmful; and
- it contains nothing executable and nothing that collects data from the people who use it.
The license you choose. You publish each item under one of the open-source licenses the upload form offers. That license is how everyone, including us, may use your item. Open-source licenses cannot be withdrawn for copies already given out, so once an item is published, people who downloaded it may keep using and sharing it under that license.
What you allow us to do. In addition, you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual license to host, store, check, review, sign, convert to the app's formats, show previews of, describe, translate the name and description of, include in the library index and app downloads, and distribute your item, and to keep doing so for copies already published. We do not claim ownership of your work.
Review and removal. Every item is reviewed before it is published, and may be checked again later. We may refuse, ask for changes, or remove an item at any time, for example after a valid report, if it breaks these terms, or if keeping it would put users or us at legal risk. A removed item is added to our signed list of withdrawn items, so the app stops offering it.
Your name. Each published item shows the author name you chose. You can choose to be listed on the Contributors page or not.
Deleting your account. For now, an account with published items cannot be deleted from the Account page; write to us and we will help. [Decision pending: published items stay available under their open-source license, and the author name is replaced with one you choose or with "former contributor".] An account with no published items can be deleted at once, together with its drafts and uploads.
Responsibility statement. You are responsible for what you publish. If someone makes a claim against us because an item you published infringes their rights or breaks the law, and you knew or should have known, you agree to help us deal with it [and to cover our reasonable costs of doing so, as far as the law allows].
4. Donating words
The app lets you donate words to the Likhon dictionary. Donation is off unless you choose it, and you see the list of words before anything is sent. A donation carries the words only, not who sent them.
By donating, you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual and irrevocable license to use, copy, change, combine and share the words you donate, in any form, and to let others do so. This includes the free dictionary in the app and the paid dictionary services for businesses described on For businesses. Because donations are not linked to you, we cannot return or delete a particular donation after it is sent.
5. The forum
Reading the forum needs no account. Posting needs one. A new member's first posts may be held until a moderator approves them.
You keep the rights to what you post. You give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive license to store, show, format and keep your posts on the website for as long as they are there. Posts are public: do not share personal information you would not want anyone to see.
In the forum, please be kind and stay on topic. The following are not allowed:
- harassment, threats, hate speech, or attacks on a person or group;
- sexual content, or content that endangers children;
- spam, advertising, or links to pirated software, fonts or other material;
- sharing someone else's personal information without their consent; and
- anything that breaks section 1.
Moderators may hide, move or lock posts and topics, and may limit or suspend an account that breaks these rules. Every moderation action is recorded. If you think a decision was wrong, [write to us; the appeals process is pending].
6. Reports and copyright notices
Anyone can report a library item or a forum post. If you believe something on the website uses your work without permission, follow Report and takedown.
7. Our right to change or stop the website
We may change, suspend or stop any part of the website, and may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first and let you download your own items.
8. No warranty, and limit of liability
The website and everything published on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. Items in the library are made by their uploaders, not by us; we review them, but we do not guarantee that they are accurate, complete or fit for your purpose.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits or business, arising from the website. Where we are liable despite this, our total liability is limited to [amount, for example BDT 1,000], because the website is free. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the last change. If a change matters for uploaders, we ask you to accept the new terms before your next upload. Continuing to use the website after a change means you accept it.
10. General
- Law and courts. These terms are governed by the laws of [Bangladesh], and the courts of [Dhaka] have jurisdiction, without taking away the protection of the consumer laws of the country where you live.
- Paid services. The dictionary API and licensed dictionary snapshots for businesses are covered by separate written agreements, not by these terms.
- Language. These terms are written in English and Bangla. If the two differ, [the English version] applies.
- Contact. [legal@likhon.app — address to be created], [postal address].
