Common problems

Settings won’t openRight-click the tray icon → Open settings. Still nothing? Restart Likhon from the tray.

Another keyboard program is runningKeys may type twice. Quit the other program or turn off its Bangla mode.

Can’t type in admin windowsWindows blocks it. This is expected and safe.

Windows warning on downloadCheck the publisher says Likhon, then Run anyway.

Getting started

How do I switch between Bangla and English?

Press F12, or click বাংলা on the top bar. The tray icon shows which one is on.

Which download should I choose?

Either: they have the same features. Portable is one file you can run anywhere; Full installs into Windows so Likhon also appears in the Windows language list.

Typing

Why does a word come out wrong?

Pick another suggestion with 1–9, or add the word: select it and press Ctrl+Alt+W.

Can I type in apps running as administrator?

No. Windows blocks this for programs without administrator rights. Likhon asks for them only when you change Windows’ default Bangla font.

Layouts

How do I add a layout from a file?

Add it from the Library page in Likhon's Settings, or choose the file (.json) in Settings → Layouts → Add from file.

Legacy fonts

My old document shows strange letters

It is legacy-encoded. Open Tools → Converter and convert it to Unicode.

Library

Is library content safe?

Every item is reviewed by a person and signed before it appears. Files you add yourself are not reviewed.

Updates and Windows

Does Likhon update by itself?

It checks only when you click Check for updates in Settings.

Does it work on Windows 7 or 8?

No. Likhon supports Windows 10 and 11 only.

Privacy

Does Likhon see what I type?

It reads keys to turn them into Bangla, on your computer only. Nothing is stored or sent.
