Draft: a lawyer reviews this text before the first public release.
- License: Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL-2.0)
- Project: Likhon

- Effective date: [Insert release date]
1. License for Likhon's Original Code
Unless a file or component states otherwise, Likhon's original source code is licensed under the Mozilla Public License, version 2.0 (MPL-2.0).
The complete license text is available at: https://www.mozilla.org/MPL/2.0/
A copy of the license should accompany Likhon's source-code distribution.
SPDX identifier: MPL-2.0
2. Permissions
Subject to the terms of MPL-2.0, you may:
- Use Likhon for personal, educational, research, organisational, or commercial purposes.
- Download, copy, install, and redistribute Likhon.
- Inspect, modify, and adapt its source code.
- Create and distribute modified versions and forks.
- Include Likhon in larger applications or software distributions.
- Offer services, integrations, hosting, support, training, or other products based on Likhon.
- Distribute Likhon without charge or sell copies of it.
These permissions are granted by the applicable open-source licenses. They do not grant ownership of Likhon's name, logos, or other trademarks.
3. Obligations When Modifying or Redistributing Likhon
When distributing Likhon or a modified version, you must comply with MPL-2.0 and the applicable licenses of all included components.
In particular:
- Preserve notices. Retain applicable copyright, license, attribution, and disclaimer notices.
- Provide covered source code. When distributing executable or other covered forms of MPL-licensed code, make the corresponding source code available as required by MPL-2.0.
- License modifications to covered files. Modifications to files covered by MPL-2.0 must remain available under MPL-2.0 when distributed, in accordance with the license.
- Identify changes. Follow MPL-2.0's requirements for notices identifying modifications to covered files.
- Respect other licenses. Components governed by MIT, Apache-2.0, SIL Open Font License, Unicode License, or other licenses remain subject to their respective terms.
- Do not misrepresent origin. Do not claim that your modified version is the official Likhon release or that the Likhon project endorses it without permission.
MPL-2.0 permits combining covered code with code under other licenses, subject to its compatibility provisions and the terms of those other licenses. It does not automatically require every file in a larger application to use MPL-2.0.
4. Commercial Use and Redistribution
Likhon is free to download and use from the official project. The project does not require users to purchase a license to use the software.
MPL-2.0 does not prohibit commercial activity. You may redistribute Likhon, including for a fee, provided you comply with all applicable license obligations.
The Likhon project does not guarantee that every third-party component, layout, font, dictionary entry, or community contribution may be used under the same terms. Check the license information accompanying each component.
5. Third-Party Components
Likhon includes or distributes components created by other authors. Those components retain their original licenses and notices.
Examples include:
- Avro Keyboard-derived layouts and resources: MPL-2.0.
- Khipro components: MIT License.
- Okkhor-derived code: MIT License, subject to verification of the specific included files.
- Hind Siliguri font: SIL Open Font License 1.1.
- Unicode CLDR data: Unicode License v3.
- Rust dependencies: Their respective licenses, as recorded in the third-party license inventory.
The full list of dependencies, attribution notices, and applicable license texts is available in Likhon's Open-source Licenses and Credits page and accompanying license notices.
Any component for which redistribution rights have not been established must be reviewed, replaced, or excluded before the affected distribution is released. In particular, the UniJoy layout must not be redistributed until its licensing permission has been verified.
6. Source Code Availability
The official Likhon project publishes its source code and the source of its MPL-licensed components at:
[Insert the official source-code repository URL]
The project should maintain source code corresponding to each distributed release, together with relevant license notices and change information, for the periods and under the conditions required by MPL-2.0.
This section describes the project's intended publication practice. The precise source-availability obligations are determined by MPL-2.0.
7. Community Contributions and Library Content
Layouts, themes, dictionaries, autocorrect lists, fonts, and other items submitted to Likhon's community library must have a license that permits the intended sharing and redistribution.
Contributors must:
- Have the necessary rights or permission to submit the material.
- Identify its source and license accurately.
- Preserve required attribution and copyright notices.
- Avoid submitting content that infringes another person's rights.
- Provide accurate information about modifications and derived material.
Contributed source-code files intended to become part of Likhon's MPL-licensed codebase should be accepted under MPL-2.0, subject to the project's contribution policy.
Community-library items may have different licenses where appropriate. Their individual license terms must be displayed clearly. Submission to the library does not make a third-party work open source if the contributor lacks the rights to license it.
The project may review, reject, or remove library items in accordance with its published contribution and takedown policies.
8. Trademarks and Project Identity
The Likhon name, logo, and other project identifiers are not automatically licensed under MPL-2.0.
You may identify Likhon accurately when describing compatibility, attribution, or the origin of a fork. You may not imply that a modified distribution is official, certified, or endorsed by the project without authorisation.
Names such as Avro Keyboard, Bijoy, UniJoy, Khipro, and Windows belong to their respective owners. Their mention identifies compatibility or component origins and does not imply affiliation or endorsement.
9. No Warranty
Likhon and its original code are provided under the terms of MPL-2.0, including its applicable warranty disclaimer and limitation-of-liability provisions.
Third-party components may contain additional or different disclaimers under their own licenses. Nothing in this summary replaces or overrides the applicable license text.
10. Governing License
The official MPL-2.0 license text governs the rights and obligations relating to code designated as MPL-2.0.
This document is a project-specific guide to Likhon's licensing arrangements. It does not amend MPL-2.0 or replace the licenses of third-party components.
