Release · The Likhon team

What's new in Likhon 0.1.2

Likhon has grown a lot since our last progress note. This is what the current test build, version 0.1.2, can do.

Bijoy and Proshika. The converter now handles two old encodings, each both ways: Unicode to Bijoy, Bijoy to Unicode, Unicode to Proshika and Proshika to Unicode. Proshika is new, so please check its output on your own documents and tell us what looks wrong. More legacy encodings are planned.

Type straight into old fonts. Turn on Settings › Legacy output and choose Bijoy or Proshika. Shift + F12, or the pill on the top bar, switches between that and Unicode. To change text you already have, select it anywhere and press Ctrl + Alt + U; Ctrl + Alt + Z undoes it within a minute.

Likhon in Win+Space. Any copy, Portable included, can now add Likhon to the Windows keyboard list from Settings › General. Windows asks for administrator permission once. The Windows keyboard always types Bangla and shows its own suggestions.

Layouts. Phonetic, Probhat and Jatiya are built in. UniJoy, Khipro, Munir Optima and Avro Easy are added with one click from Settings › Library. Khipro passes all 105 of its team's test cases.

Suggestions. Words come from about 160,000 checked words, with hundreds of thousands more behind them, your own words first. Likhon now predicts the next word, fixes easily confused letters (ি and ী, স, শ and ষ), and lets you type emoji by name, such as :hashi:.

The library, inside the app. Settings › Library adds fonts, themes, layouts, word lists, autocorrect lists and shortcuts, and only when you click. Three themes are built in (Default, Paper and Green, each light and dark); more are in the library.

Tools. Ctrl + Alt + T opens them: the converter, clean pasted text, Taka in words, Bangla numbers and dates, how to type a word (Ctrl + Alt + H), the symbol palette (Ctrl + Alt + S), the on-screen keyboard (Ctrl + Alt + K) and a layout chart you can print.

Your words, your choice. Donating words is still off unless you turn it on. You now tick each word in a review list before it is sent, and donated words go to a public vote on this website.

Changed. The default Bangla font changer is gone: most of Windows 11 ignores that setting. If an earlier copy changed it, Settings › Fonts offers Restore.

On the website. Type online and the Home page now type with the app's own engine, Type online has Khipro and can copy your text as Bijoy or Proshika, and the "How to type it" tool works.

Still to come: the installer (Full), self-update, and checking library signatures inside the app.
